Post subject:  minimum range for long range units

first of all, i think MA is a great game. very dynamic and challenging.

now, here is my comment:

i think long range land units should have a minimum range, ie., they cannot attack units close/beside them.

please don't flame me with my opinion but i think it should be a handicap for long range units. this "concept" can be seen on most RTS (AoE) and TBS (advance wars) games.

will this affect the game balance? i think not. it should allow (defending) players to protect their long range units more but will give advantage to weak close range (attacking) units.

well there is an unit with minimum range - a rocket launcher\annihilator.it can not fire at targets next to it.
about other units- i think there is no point to make a minimum range for them.

right, the Rocket Launchers already have a minimum fire range of 2 squares (cant shoot anything right next to it

The only other possible unit that could be affected by your "concept" would be the mortars.
Hell, the way the mortars are made, there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to shoot next to em. The turret can go pretty much straight up, and these aren't exactly nuclear attacks that deal incredible amounts of splash damage.
Besides, putting a minimum range on mortars means they can only shoot things 2 squares away.
And thats just silly.

[edit] or towers. I forgot towers.
But their strength is that they can deal a fair amount of damage at a good range. Helps compensate for the high cost and no mobility.
