Well I gotta say thanks for not flaming me on this one. I guess the two of us disagree a little bit and I can respect that. I just think that in a wargame, that is rather blatently gratuitous and unnecessary. Yes, they can and do see and hear far too much these days imho. Its just sad that I cant even get away from it in something so innocent as a wargame.
This is a comment from the original author of this thread. I think his arguments have been stretched so much that people forget how simple his question was: why is this necessary? He didn't speak about grounding his kids, suppressing anyone's rights, etc. He is just a concerned parent.
This is a war game, we knew that when we bought the box. But it is a very impersonal war game, with tanks shooting other tanks. There is no blood, there are no people visible, no death cries, etc. Sure, you can imagine that people inside the vehicles are dying, or tanks are running over people in the trees, but you could also imagine that none of the vehicles are actually manned, or that the technology is advanced enough for the pilots of vehicles to escape/eject before they are blown up.
But all of this goes beyond the author's original point. Of course everyone has their own opinion (he himself told how he respected other's opinions).
Now for my opinion. To me this is not that big of a deal, but I still don't see the need for this phrase. I'm not thinking just about my kids, but myself as well. Sure, I can handle it, I'm an adult, but I still don't like it. Thats all. Doesn't mean I'm going to shut off the sound, or delete that statement with the new sound tools we have, just stating my dislike for it.
